Pledge your support for flexible work at Sydney Water

4 September 2024

Working 3 days a week in the office should be a personal choice, not forced on us.

We have been inundated with calls from our members, who are worried about what this means for them.

Our members in the Head Office and Potts Hill are currently fighting off an attempt by Sydney Water management to force them to come into the office at least three days a week – all of this without genuine consultation.

For workers with children or other caring responsibilities, and for those who travel for a very long time on public transport, working from home has meant a better work life balance.

For decades, Sydney Water have tactically played our members in the networks off against members based in the office, but our members at Sydney Water stand as one united workforce.

We call on our members across all part of the business to pledge their support for our members based in the office.

Making policy through the media without consultation can only mean one thing: this is bad policy, and not in the interest of working people.

If you are affected by this change, your current policy requires a minimum of 2 days in the office. Any change to the policy requires consultation. No worker should be forced to come into the office an additional day without the union being consulted on this variation to the policy.

Sydney Water is also required to consider your views and circumstances before implementing change and reducing negative effects on you. If you can’t vary your days in the office due to personal circumstances - notify your manager in writing and let them know now!
